Impending Doom

At this point it's been just over a week and my fear of impending doom has been confirmed. Inktober has officially consumed all of my free time. Don't get me wrong, I have been enjoying myself, but I am grateful that this will come to an end. Day 7 I chose to draw a butterfly koi in a non-traditional, tattoo art style. Day 8 I drew Deadpool simply because I watched the movie for the umpteanth time. And day 9 I decided I would draw something strictly from my imagination, using no reference photos.

You'll notice I started using marker, which some may not consider to be ink. But if we want to get technical I'm using Copic Markers, a refillable, alcohol based ink. This medium certainly isn't for everyone, but I love rendering images with them. I work from light to dark as I would when using watercolors. One thing you definitely have to get used to is how it will bleed slightly as it soaks into the fibers of the paper (I drew this on Moleskine sketchbook paper), except when using a marker paper (like Bienfang Graphics 360). I see this as an asset when blending one color into another. I also take advantage of the translucency of the marker inks. As I would with watercolor paint I build colors up by layering them one color at a time. Well, I'm sure this is way more information than you wanted on Copic markers, but give them a try. They are the best! (Prismacolor markers are also excellent)
