Improvising, Cover Ups, and Moving Forward

This new piece I'm working on was initially going to be scrapped, but with my show date quickly approaching I had to improvise, cover up my mistakes, and keep moving forward. You'll see in image 1 that the chrysanthemum has a lot of colors and a white outline done with gouache to cover up my rose that I had royally f***ed up. I also felt the skulls looked too "Halloweeny", and the color striped ribbon was too colorful and too whimsical. In image two you can see how I painted over the skulls with a deep purple, started lifting the colors off of the color strips, and covered them with a deep purple. By image three I felt I had a proper color scheme and was able to continue moving forward.
