Gift Box Cover Design
Here's a gift box cover design I did for Clif Bar which is meant to be complimentary to all musicians performing at the House of Blues in Downtown Disney, Anaheim. I tried to combine a hand drawn characteristic with an overall graphic looking design. I also gave the two front musicians slightly over emphasized hat, feet, and hand features in order to highlight their musical talents and make them pop more. I chose not to fill in the drummer to create more of an illusion that he was in the background. Too often I treat type as an after thought. For this design I really wanted to try and incorporate the type into the design. Once I created the orange and green shapes jutting through the composition I felt they served three purposes: first they appeared to be spot lights, second they created a nice frame for the image, and third they produced a natural angle at which my type was to be placed. The first color way was a no go as it had a green background. This posed as a potential issue since the rest of the gift box color scheme was red and white, thus making it look too "Christmassy." As a result we settled on a grey color way. I feel this turned out to be a slightly better solution because the white halftone pattern in the background gave more cohesion to the white figures in the foreground.
