Good Reads

I really loathe New Year's resolutions, but this year I had resolved to read more, more specifically a book a month. I was quite veracious the first month having read a total of eleven books. I was eager to share all the good reads, but I felt it would be too ho-hum to just photograph all the books. As a result I've been sketching self portraits of myself reading. For the month of January I was short on time and chose to draw a simple outline sketch. Perhaps at some point I'll revisit this drawing and include some color. Due to the lack of color on the first month's sketch I chose to include it in February's. I believe this is the first time that I have not incorporated a black outline when using markers and I can now see why. The drawing was much looser that what I am accustomed to in my own art and I have safely concluded that it is not a look I particularly care for. At any rate, I always enjoy discovering new nuances in art materials and execution processes.

My favorite book for January was by far "Ender's Game" by Orson Scott Card. Please do not bother watching the movie. The book, as is always the case, was far better! Card's character development, social intrigue, and overall story telling will keep you hooked until the end. My choice for February was easily "1984" by George Orwell. It's uncanny how palpable a book can be that was written in 1949.
